Credential requirements vary by jurisdiction but a general guide is listed below.

Anaesthesia Credentials

  • Medical Degree

    A basic medical degree recognised by the World Health Organisation and appropriate regulatory organisation in your chosen practice jurisdiction is essential.

  • Specialist Qualification in Anaesthesia

    A postgraduate residency training in anaesthesia culminating in the successful attainment of a recognised specialist qualification is essential.


    Favoured qualifications are:

    • FRCA / CCT
    • FRCSC
    • American Board of Anaesthesia
    • FANZCA 
    • Fachartz in Anaesthesia
    • DES / DESC Anaesthesia

  • Specialist Licence in Anaesthesia

    Candidates for anaesthesia positions should hold specialist accreditation in their current practice jurisdiction and be able to produce a certificate of good standing. 

  • Minimal Experience Levels

    Some positions require a minimum level of specialist experience in independent practice. This usually ranges from 3-5 years but each job advert should specify the duration of experience sought. For senior leadership posts, over 10 years experience is usually needed.
