Job Overview
A 12 month fixed term full time position for a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with a general scope of practice, based in a secondary care hospital in New Zealand's North Island. Relocation package for international candidates.
  • The orthopaedic team offers a mix of elective and acute orthopaedic surgery.
  • Consultants are supported by registrars, house officers, physiotherapists, and anaesthetic and theatre teams committed to providing high-quality, patient-centred care.
  • Secondary level facility, with modern infrastructure and opportunities to contribute to ongoing clinical service development.

Duties

The successful candidate will:
  • Provide comprehensive orthopaedic care; including consultation, diagnosis and management of general orthopaedic, trauma and arthroplasty patients.  
  • Perform surgical interventions with precision and a commitment to patient safety.
  • Participate in the on-call roster to manage acute orthopaedic emergencies.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualised care plans.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the department's clinical governance.
  • Provide teaching and mentorship to junior doctors and medical students.
  • Stay up to date with advancements in orthopaedic care and bring innovative practices to the department.
  • 40 hour week plus on call rota participation

Professional Requirements

The ideal applicant will have:
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons or equivalent.
  • Eligible for an Annual Practising Certificate with a vocational scope of Orthopaedic Surgery with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
  • Proven expertise in both trauma and elective orthopaedic procedures.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to foster strong relationships with patients and colleagues.
  • Commitment to teamwork, patient-centred care, and continuous professional development.
Remuneration Package
  • Salary (SECA Collective Agreement scales) plus allowances for on call and extra duties
  • superannuation 6%
  • 6 weeks annual leave
