A 12 month fixed term full time position for a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with a general scope of practice, based in a secondary care hospital in New Zealand's North Island. Relocation package for international candidates.
- The orthopaedic team offers a mix of elective and acute orthopaedic surgery.
- Consultants are supported by registrars, house officers, physiotherapists, and anaesthetic and theatre teams committed to providing high-quality, patient-centred care.
- Secondary level facility, with modern infrastructure and opportunities to contribute to ongoing clinical service development.
Duties
The successful candidate will:
- Provide comprehensive orthopaedic care; including consultation, diagnosis and management of general orthopaedic, trauma and arthroplasty patients.
- Perform surgical interventions with precision and a commitment to patient safety.
- Participate in the on-call roster to manage acute orthopaedic emergencies.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualised care plans.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the department's clinical governance.
- Provide teaching and mentorship to junior doctors and medical students.
- Stay up to date with advancements in orthopaedic care and bring innovative practices to the department.
- 40 hour week plus on call rota participation
Professional Requirements
The ideal applicant will have:
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons or equivalent.
- Eligible for an Annual Practising Certificate with a vocational scope of Orthopaedic Surgery with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
- Proven expertise in both trauma and elective orthopaedic procedures.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to foster strong relationships with patients and colleagues.
- Commitment to teamwork, patient-centred care, and continuous professional development.
- Salary (SECA Collective Agreement scales) plus allowances for on call and extra duties
