Position Details
- Contract Dates: 1 February 2027 – 6 February 2028
- Classification: HM25 – HM30 (dependent on experience)
- Salary: As per Victorian Medical Officers Award
- Hours: 86 hours per fortnight (including 10 hours protected training time)
This position offers excellent clinical and operative experience within a busy General Surgery department within a major regional tertiary referral hospital and gain invaluable experience across a broad range of surgical presentations.
The department includes accredited surgical trainees, unaccredited registrars, and dedicated junior doctors working alongside experienced consultant surgeons to deliver high-quality patient care.
This position provides excellent preparation for doctors intending to pursue accredited General Surgery or other surgical specialty training.
Clinical Responsibilities
Working closely with consultant surgeons and surgical trainees, you will:
- Coordinate the care of surgical inpatients and outpatients
- Support consultant-led General Surgery teams
- Participate in evening, weekend, and night rosters
- Manage acute surgical admissions and emergency presentations
- Deliver safe, evidence-based perioperative care
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary surgical teams
Operative Experience
Registrars benefit from excellent operative exposure throughout the year, including:
- Scheduled elective operating theatre sessions
- Opportunities to operate as the primary surgeon under supervision
- First assistant experience in a wide range of surgical procedures
- Progressive development of technical operative skills
- Regular exposure to complex surgical cases within a tertiary referral environment
