Position Overview

A high-quality regional hospital in the Hunter Region of New South Wales is seeking Staff Specialists and Visiting Medical Officers in Anaesthesia to join a growing and highly regarded department.

With the opening of new operating theatres and expansion of services, multiple permanent full-time and part-time opportunities are available for suitably qualified anaesthetists.

The Role

You will provide comprehensive anaesthetic services across a broad surgical and procedural caseload, contributing to high-quality, patient-centred care within a collaborative multidisciplinary framework.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Delivery of anaesthesia for a wide range of specialties including general surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics & gynaecology, urology, ENT, paediatrics and ophthalmology
  • Anaesthetic support for endoscopy, diagnostic imaging and interventional procedures
  • Participation in perioperative assessment and optimisation of patients
  • Contribution to acute and chronic pain management services
  • Involvement in teaching, supervision and training of junior medical staff and trainees
  • Opportunities to engage in clinical leadership, service development and research
Department & Facilities

The Anaesthesia Department is central to the hospital's expanding surgical services and operates within a purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility.
  • Up to 8 operating theatres and 2 procedural rooms (on completion of expansion)
  • Advanced monitoring systems and modern recovery/day-stay units
  • Supported by a Level 5 Intensive Care Unit
  • Expanding interventional radiology and cardiology services
  • Accredited for ANZCA training and GP Anaesthesia training
  • Active participation in simulation, education and professional development

Candidate Requirements
  • Primary medical degree eligible for registration with AHPRA
  • Fellowship of ANZCA (or within 6 months of completion), or eligibility via an approved overseas specialist pathway
  • Demonstrated contemporary experience and clinical competence in anaesthesia
  • Commitment to teaching, clinical governance and multidisciplinary teamwork
