The Opportunity
An excellent opportunity is available for an experienced Consultant Cardiologist with a subspecialty interest in Diagnostic Cardiology (Imaging) to join a well-established regional health service on a part-time, ongoing basis.
This role is ideally suited to cardiologists seeking a high-quality diagnostic and consultative practice, with a strong emphasis on echocardiography and outpatient services, within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment. Flexible fractional arrangements may be available by agreement.
Scope of Practice
The successful applicant will contribute to the delivery of specialist diagnostic cardiology services, including:
- Outpatient cardiology clinics (as rostered)
- Stress echocardiography, transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE)
- Timely reporting of diagnostic studies with prompt communication of urgent or critical findings
- Consultative support to referring clinicians and multidisciplinary teams
Diagnostic Imaging
- Perform and report stress echocardiography (minimum volumes per session)
- Report TTE studies within agreed turnaround times
- Perform and report TOE studies as scheduled
- Ensure same-day or timely electronic reporting and escalation of urgent findings
- Participation in outpatient cardiology clinics
- Supervision and support of junior medical staff
- Contribution to cardiology case conferences and echocardiography meetings
- Teaching and training of registrars, residents, sonographers and medical students
- Involvement in quality improvement, audit and service development initiatives
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent
- Eligibility for full, unconditional registration with AHPRA
- Subspecialty training and significant experience in cardiac imaging / echocardiography
- Senior-level cardiology experience within a major hospital or comparable setting
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, patient-centred approach
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and clinical governance
- Advanced certification or experience in:
- Exercise and pharmacological stress echocardiography
- Transoesophageal echocardiography
- CT coronary angiography and/or cardiac MRI
- Part-time / fractional consultant appointment with flexibility
