 An outstanding opportunity is available for Intensive Care Registrars to join a major regional teaching hospital in Victoria, Australia. These accredited positions provide comprehensive critical care exposure within a modern Intensive Care Unit recognised for high-quality training, strong consultant support, and broad multidisciplinary experience.

This role is ideal for doctors pursuing a career in Intensive Care Medicine who are seeking accredited training, procedural experience, and exposure to regional tertiary-level critical care practice.

Position Details
  • Full time post starting January 2027
The Role

The Intensive Care Unit is an accredited training site with the College of Intensive Care Medicine and offers:
  • Foundation ICU training
  • Core Intensive Care Medicine Training (C6 accreditation)
  • Elective training in a regional/rural ICU setting
Registrars will complete:
  • A guaranteed 6-month Intensive Care Unit rotation
  • Additional rotations which may include:
    • Emergency Medicine
    • Palliative Care Medicine
    • Intensive Care Medicine
    • Anaesthetics (for eligible CICM trainees)
Rotations are tailored according to training requirements, experience and service needs.

Training & Professional Development

The ICU supports:
  • Phase 0, 1, 2 and 3 CICM trainees
  • Preparation for CICM Part 1 and Part 2 examinations
  • Formal CICM research projects
  • Rural and regional training requirements
  • Strong consultant supervision and mentorship
The department provides broad exposure to critically ill medical, surgical and trauma patients within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment.
Flexible Contract Options Depending on applicant experience and training requirements, positions may offer:
  • 12 to 36-month contracts
  • Part-time opportunities (0.5 FTE)
  • Potential six-month appointments in exceptional circumstances

Requirements Applicants must:
  • Be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  • Have a minimum of three years postgraduate clinical experience (minimum PGY4 by commencement in 2027)
  • Demonstrate strong interest in Intensive Care Medicine and critical care training
  • Possess excellent communication and teamwork skills
