We are seeking a consultant haematologist to join a regional oncology and haematology service in New Zealand's North Island. This position is likely to involve some regional travel and is located in a region with an excellent lifestyle, scenic hiking spots and great schools.

An interest in haemato-oncology is required.

Position Highlights
  • Full time  permanent employment contract with a leading public sector healthcare organisation
  • Join an established team of seven Haematologists and four resident medical officers. 
  • 40 hour working week plus 1 in 8 on call rota

  • provide quality outpatient gastroscopy and colonoscopy, ERCP, liver elastography, outpatient clinical care, inpatient gastroenterology care and bowel cancer screening services.
  • affiliated to the University of Otago, has a training gastroenterology registrar and a research relationship with Massey University.  This environment provides excellent opportunity for both teaching and research.

Hospital 
  • 350-bed secondary hospital in the Lower North Island of New Zealand. Palmerston North Hospital which offers most medical and surgical specialties with the exception of Cardiothoracic, Plastic and Neurosurgery.
  • serves a local population of 180,000 but is the base for a regional head and neck oncology service which has responsibility for a population of 600,000 
  • Clinical Haematology, Radiation Oncology and Medical Oncology services provide inpatient and outpatient haematology care and manage a wide range of haematological conditions including acute leukaemia, lymphoma, autologus stem cell transplantation, plasma exchange, haemostatsis and thrombosis. 
  • Out patient clinics run at various sites across the region
  • The department maintains an active clinical research portfolio including clinical trials.
  • The service is an approved FRACP training center and undertakes active postgraduate teaching at House Officer, Senior House Officer and Registrar level.  Multi-disciplinary case meetings (Tumour Boards) are held locally and regionally. 
Professional Requirements
  • Medical Degree recognised by WHO 
  • FRACP or equivalent specialist qualification
  • Interest in haemato-oncology
  • Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand, or be eligible for vocational or provisional vocational registration
