POSITION OVERVIEW

A consultant diagnostic radiologist  is sought for a full time permanent position with a regional radiology service which provides a range of services across several hospitals including a tertiary teaching hospital. An interest in cardiothoracic or Musculo skeletal diagnostic radiology is sought.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Reporting and supervising imaging lists (e.g. CT, MRI, Ultrasound)
  • Fluoroscopy procedures as appropriate to the speciality
  • Preparing and taking clinical meetings/MDMs and liaising with clinicians where required
  • As a RANZCR training centre teach radiology trainees in years 1-5.
  • Participation in diagnostic radiology on-call roster
Cardio-thoracic Imaging:
The department covers secondary and tertiary Cardiology, Respiratory and Cardio-Thoracic surgical services for the local and Central Regional patients. There is a close working relationship with Cardiology in delivering Cardiac and Aortic imaging.
There is a close working relationship with Respiratory and Cardio-thoracic surgery and the meeting schedule currently includes a weekly diagnostic and full lung cancer MDM, and weekly respiratory radiology meetings. There is a monthly regional ILD meeting.
There are interventional radiologists but there are interventional opportunities for diagnostic radiologists to perform lung biopsy and pleural procedures.

Musculoskeletal imaging:
The department provides an opportunity to pursue interesting subspecialist musculoskeletal work. MRI cases reflect the workload of a busy tertiary centre, including but not limited to: severe trauma and multi-ligament injuries; tumour cases; arthritis imaging; osteomyelitis and septic arthritis.

Interventional opportunities include: regular ultrasound and/or fluoroscopically guided therapeutic injections, spine injection lists, tumour biopsy (with good support from sarcoma surgeons) and musculoskeletal aspirates and drainages.

There is an active and supportive group of interventional radiologists ready to assist with, advise on or even perform more challenging procedures.
The meeting schedule currently includes a (predominantly body) sarcoma MDM/Tumour board, a weekly paediatric orthopaedic meeting and there is an appetite to establish a regular general orthopaedic meeting.

Tertiary department commitments include teaching registrars in both diagnostic and procedural elements of musculoskeletal radiology and there is typically a high level of interest and proficiency. There is also scope to have teaching sessions with medical students and with clinicians from other specialties, particularly orthopaedics.

Remuneration
  • ASMS Scale salary for 40 hour work week plus additional on call allowances
  • superannuation
