Position Overview


An excellent permanent opportunity is available for an experienced Consultant Cardiologist with expertise in Diagnostic Cardiology and Cardiac Imaging to join a major regional health service in Victoria.

This is an ongoing fractional specialist appointment, offering competitive specialist remuneration, relocation assistance and the opportunity to combine a high-quality cardiology practice with the lifestyle advantages of one of Victoria's largest regional cities.

The Position

The Consultant Cardiologist will provide specialist diagnostic cardiology and consultative services, working as part of an established multidisciplinary cardiology and medical service.

The role has a particular emphasis on cardiac imaging, with responsibilities including:
  • Diagnostic cardiology services
  • Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) interpretation and reporting
  • Stress echocardiography
  • Regular specialist outpatient cardiology clinics
  • Specialist consultation and clinical advice
  • Collaboration with cardiology, medical, emergency and critical care colleagues
  • Contribution to high-quality, evidence-based cardiovascular care
The fractional structure of up to 28 hours per fortnight may make this position particularly attractive to cardiologists seeking to combine public hospital practice with other clinical, academic or private commitments.

Candidate Profile

Applications are invited from appropriately qualified specialist cardiologists with substantial experience in Diagnostic Cardiology and Cardiac Imaging.
Candidates should normally possess:
  • A recognised primary medical qualification
  • Specialist qualifications in Cardiology
  • Appropriate postgraduate training and experience in Diagnostic Cardiology
  • Demonstrated expertise in echocardiography and cardiac imaging
  • Experience interpreting TTE and stress echocardiography
  • Appropriate experience in outpatient consultant cardiology
  • Eligibility for specialist registration with AHPRA
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Cardiology, or an international specialist qualification considered substantially comparable for specialist registration purposes
  • Strong communication and multidisciplinary working skills
  • Commitment to clinical governance, quality improvement and continuing professional development
Internationally trained cardiologists who meet the requirements for assessment through the appropriate Australian specialist registration pathway may also be considered.

The successful candidate will be required to provide evidence of the required immunisation record, including 2026 influenza vaccination, as part of the onboarding process.

Remuneration and Relocation

The appointment offers a competitive specialist remuneration package:
AUD $166.89 - $216.66 per hour plus superannuation, according to classification and experience.

Additional incentives may be available to the successful candidate.
Relocation assistance of up to:
  • AUD $10,000 for international relocation
  • AUD $8,000 for interstate relocation
  • AUD $3,000 for relocation within Victoria
may also be available, subject to the applicable conditions.
