Position Overview

A senior leadership position is available for an experienced Obstetrician & Gynaecologist to assume the role of Clinical Unit Head - Obstetrics & Gynaecology within a high-performing regional service.

This is a strategically significant appointment, combining clinical excellence with executive-level leadership, offering the opportunity to shape service delivery, workforce capability, and future models of care across a large regional catchment.

You will provide clinical governance, operational oversight, and strategic direction to the unit, ensuring delivery of safe, high-quality, and patient-centred care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical leadership and governance across Obstetrics & Gynaecology services
  • Lead service planning, development, and performance improvement initiatives
  • Oversee workforce management, including recruitment, mentoring, and professional development
  • Drive multidisciplinary collaboration to enhance patient outcomes
  • Ensure compliance with clinical standards, safety frameworks, and accreditation requirements
  • Contribute to education, teaching, and research activities
You will report operationally to the Clinical Director - Women & Children and professionally to the Chief Medical Officer, playing a central role in shaping regional women's health services.
Remuneration
  • Fractional Specialist: $169.70 - $221.19 per hour (excl. super)
  • Staff Specialist: $132.64 - $182.38 per hour (excl. super)
  • Classification: Specialist Year 1 - 9 (HN19-HN59 / HM33-HM41)
The Service
You will join a comprehensive Clinical Operations Division delivering acute, specialist, cancer, and mental health services across a large regional network.
The Women's & Children's service is supported by:
  • Modern, well-equipped clinical environments

  • A high-volume service with approximately:
    • 1,700 births annually
    • 100,000+ outpatient service events
    • 60,000+ Emergency Department presentations

Candidate Requirements
  • Fellowship with an appropriate specialist college (e.g. FRANZCOG or equivalent)
  • Eligibility for specialist registration in Australia (AHPRA)
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical leadership or service management
  • Commitment to teaching, training, and continuous service improvement
