Position Highlights
- permanent full time contract with a 260 bed public sector hospital
- 40 hour working week plus on call duties
- work in a region with one of the highest rates of stroke and TIA in the country, currently admitting around 350 strokes per annum.
- run a comprehensive stroke service with a 10 bed Hyper-Acute/Acute Stroke Unit as well as a closely linked rehabilitation unit.
- provide 24/7 care including stroke thrombolysis
- closely linked to our comprehensive stroke centre, Auckland City Hospital, for mechanical thrombectomy.
- participate in our acute stroke rotation providing acute stroke unit care, hyperacute stroke assessment, treatment and referral.
- provide supervision to junior doctors
- participate in the afterhours on call rota including weekend acute stroke specialist ward rounds.
- Ideally you will bring experience in the stroke specialty
- Candidates with neurology, acute medicine or geriatric medicine experience would be encouraged to participate in the inpatient and outpatient services for those specialities.

- Expertise in internal medicine
- Eligible for specialist (or locum tenens) registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand in Internal Medicine as primary speciality
- salary paid in accordance with national pay scales for senior medical officers (NZ$ 190,000 -270,000 pa), basic 40 hour week
