A registrar in general surgery is sought for a full time appointment commencing August 11 2025. This is a non training position but nevertheless provides valuable clinical experience.

Position Highlights: 
  • Full time employment, 40 hour week plus on call duties
  • Non SET position which uniquely offers hands-on time in both the operating theatre and endoscopy suite, giving you ample experience in preparation for advanced training. 
  • Registrars are responsible for managing patients on the ward, acute admissions and attending clinical activities (Operating theatre, endoscopy, clinics).
  • After-hours on-call is generally one week night per week and one weekend per month (Friday - Sunday).
  • Good flexibility to allow for personal and professional leave. 
  • Department of General Surgery consists of five General Surgeons, each with their own sub-specialty interest. There is one training registrar and one non-training registrar. There are currently four house surgeons on the team. 
  • 110 bed acute care hospital which serves a wide geographical area, with a full range of diagnostic facilities on site including a new MRI scanner and CT scanner.

  • Suitable for junior doctors at level of PGY3 with 6 months previous experience in general surgery
Professional Requirements
  • Medical Degree recognised by WHO 
  • Experience PGY3+ minimum
  • Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand, or be eligible for general or provisional general registration
