Position Highlights
- Respected 400 bed public hospital
- Surgery department has 10 consultant general surgeons
- Experience in upper and lower GI endoscopy required
- Interest or post-fellowship training in Trauma or Breast would be an advantage.
- Manage a broad range of acute and elective conditions
- 24/7 ED
- 40 hour week plus 1 in 10 on call rota

The role includes the following:
- managing in patients and out patients
- working shifts (day and night)
- Ward rounds and ward work
- Consultations: review of inpatients referred for opinion
- Multi-disciplinary team meetings
- Discussions and meetings with caregivers and whanau.
- Triaging and responding to referral letters
- Telephone advice and consultation
- Research and study relating to treatment of a specific patient
- Clinical advice, teaching, mentoring and support to other staff
- Junior doctor teaching
Requirements
- Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons or equivalent qualification recognised by the Medical Council of New Zealand
- Eligibility for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centred care
