This is a part time position in a large teaching hospital affiliated with two medical schools, offering an excellent opportunity to sample work in New Zealand's largest city.

Position Highlights
  • part time 0.75 FTE, permanent job based in an accredited, 850-bed, teaching hospital of Auckland University and University of Otago, well-known internationally for world class work in orthopaedics; burns and spinal injury rehabilitation
  • other specialist services include neonatal intensive care, renal dialysis, and reconstructive and maxillofacial surgery.
  • Emergency Department sees 130,000 adult and paediatric presentations per year
  • one of the busiest EDs in Australasia.  
  • The emergency department is accredited with the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) for 36 months of training as a mixed Tier 1 Emergency Department.
  • busy Major Trauma Centre seeing approximately 300 major trauma patients (ISS >13) per year as well as acting as the quaternary centre for spinal cord, mangled limb and burns patients.
  • The hospital is well supported by dedicated Trauma, Burns and Spinal Cord teams and has an active trauma committee that provides governance and oversite.
  • The hospital also provides immediate care for walk in paediatric trauma patients and maintains excellent links with the local cardio thoracic and neurosurgical centres via the Northern Regional Trauma Committee.
  • The ED specialist plays a vital role in acting as team leader for major trauma
  • participate in medical student and RMO teaching

Professional Requirements
  • FACEM or equivalent qualification
  • Eligible for vocational registration within the scope of emergency medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand or Special Purpose Locum Tenens registration
Remuneration Package

The remuneration packages defined by the SECA Collective Agreement 
  • basic salary for a 40 hour week and additional allowances for on Call Duty
  • six weeks holiday per year
  • 10 days study leave plus an allowance of 16,000 dollars per year
  • relocation package covering cost of removal to New Zealand
  • superannuation
