Position Highlights
- full time, permanent employment contract
- an expanding cardiology service run by a team of 5 cardiologists supported by one registrar, a house officer, inpatient cardiology nursing staff, a nurse practitioner, several clinical nurse specialists and senior cardiology outpatient nurses, two cardiac sonographers and two cardiac physiologists.
- general cardiologist delivers inpatient cardiology care approximately one in five weeks and outpatient ambulatory services predominantly from hospitals and clinics across the region.
- many opportunities to develop subspecialist interests that will complement the department’s current service
- The department’s facilities allow echocardiography, CT coronary angiography, cardiac MRI, exercise treadmill testing, ambulatory cardiac monitoring, a diagnostic angiography laboratory and cardiac device implantation (as of this year). Proficiency in left and right heart catheterisation studies, temporary pacing wires and pericardial drains is important.

- cardiology is part of the 50 physician strong internal medicine department working in 12 sub specialist areas.
- department provides medical education for undergraduate students and physician trainees with a robust education calendar in place.
- FRACP or equivalent qualification
- Eligible for vocational or provisional vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
