This 12-month Hospital Medical Officer (HMO) position is specifically designed for PGY3+ doctors seeking future training in Intensive Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesia, or other Critical Care specialties.

Working across Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine, you will gain exceptional hands-on clinical experience, structured education, and dedicated professional development within a modern tertiary referral hospital.

Position Details
  • Contract Dates: 1 February 2027 – 6 February 2028
  • Classification: Hospital Medical Officer Year 3 (HM13) – Medical Officer Year 6 and thereafter (HM20)
  • Salary: As per Victorian Medical Officers Award
  • Hours: 76 hours per fortnight
  • Other Requirements: Current influenza vaccination
The Opportunity

This dedicated Critical Care HMO Program provides an ideal bridge between residency and specialist registrar training.

Designed for PGY3+ doctors, the program delivers comprehensive exposure to both Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine, helping participants develop the clinical knowledge, procedural skills, and confidence required for future specialist training.
Clinical Rotations The 12-month program includes:
  • Term 1: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
  • Term 2: Emergency Medicine
  • Term 3: Emergency Medicine
  • Term 4: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
This balanced rotation allows doctors to build strong foundations in the assessment and management of critically ill patients across multiple clinical settings.

Training & Professional Development

The program has been specifically developed as a pre-registrar year and includes:
  • Extensive hands-on clinical experience
  • Supervised procedural training
  • Structured teaching and education sessions
  • Ongoing consultant supervision and mentoring
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Maintenance of a procedural logbook with regular assessment and feedback
This position provides excellent preparation for future specialist training in:
  • Intensive Care Medicine
