12-month full time Registrar position commencing February 2026 in the paediatrics service of a regional secondary care hospital in Victoria Australia

This accredited position offers an excellent opportunity to gain both rural and community paediatric experience as part of advanced training in General Paediatrics. The role provides exposure to a broad range of paediatric presentations and the chance to experience true paediatrics in a supportive and well-resourced regional environment.
The position is shared hospital and community health services with rotations of two weeks at each site. The community component focuses on developmental and community paediatrics, while the hospital component provides exposure to general and acute paediatric care.
During hospital rotations, registrars participate in approximately twelve child protection assessments per year in collaboration with the Department of Human Services and Victoria Police, an important aspect of general paediatric training that supports logbook requirements.
This role also offers the opportunity to take part in virtual ward rounds with smaller hospitals across the region, supporting neonates and children cared for by visiting medical officers with advanced paediatric skills.
The hospital maintains a shared-care oncology model with Monash Children’s Hospital and The Royal Children’s Hospital, providing valuable experience in managing febrile neutropenia and basic chemotherapy.
There are also strong links with the Monash University Clinical School, offering opportunities for teaching and research supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The hospital provides neonatal care from 32 weeks’ gestation and has access to advanced diagnostic services including 3T MRI and nuclear medicine. The service works Community Health Services to provide integrated, community-focused paediatric care across hospital and community settings.
The hospital is a secondary level general hospital with clinical operations encompassing acute, allied health, cancer, dental and mental health services, a wide range of general medical, surgical and specialty services including but not limited to; Oncology, Cardiology, Renal, Emergency, Women's and Children's, Critical Care, Specialist Clinics, Cancer Clinics and Mental Health Services.
Professional Requirements
- Medical Degree
- Completed prevocational training
- PGY4 + with previous paediatric medicine experience
- Eligible for general AHPRA registration
