An outstanding opportunity is available for an experienced General Surgeon to join a major regional health service in Victoria, Australia, as a Fractional Specialist. This permanent part-time position offers the opportunity to deliver high-quality surgical care while contributing to teaching, clinical leadership and the development of future surgeons within a modern tertiary referral environment.

Position Highlights
  • Permanent Part-Time appointment (35 hours per fortnight)

The Role As a Fractional Specialist General Surgeon, you will:
  • Provide high-quality specialist general surgical services across inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Deliver comprehensive pre-operative, operative and post-operative patient care.
  • Supervise, mentor and train junior medical staff and surgical trainees.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary care and clinical governance activities.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of surgical services across the region.
Surgical Services

The surgical service manages a broad range of elective and emergency presentations, including:
  • General abdominal surgery
  • Emergency general surgery
  • Upper and lower gastrointestinal surgery
  • ENT and head & neck surgery
  • Facio-maxillary surgery
  • Urology
  • Reconstructive surgery
  • Thoracic surgery
The department also plays a key role in patient flow across emergency, intensive care, recovery services and regional referral networks.

Essential Requirements Applicants should possess:
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) or an equivalent specialist qualification that is eligible for Specialist Registration in Australia.
  • Current or eligible registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
  • Demonstrated expertise in General Surgery.
  • Commitment to teaching, supervision and multidisciplinary care.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
