Rural Medicine Physician or General Practitioner

Role: Rural Physicians - General Practitioners

Our client in New Zealand is seeking physicians to build an integrated primary and secondary health care service in a rural community. General Practitioners will run the new primary care service and rural hospital physicians will run the secondary care services.

You must be flexible, open minded and progressive and have outstanding team working capabilities to join the existing small, supportive, and competent team of doctors already working in the level 3 rural hospital providing 24/7 medical cover.

You must be able to employ varied and broad generalist knowledge and experience to diagnose and treat your patients in either a primary care or secondary care high acuity area setting with opportunities to follow your patients admitted to the inpatient ward..   

Role Duties

  • Be part of an experienced team of medical professionals and working with RHM trainees;

You will need to have the FRNZCGP or FDRHMNZ and will have the opportunity to work as a rural GP in a modern innovative environment or as a generalist within the Rural Hospital Medicine scope of practice.

The hospital

The Hospital opened in 2002 as a purpose-built facility with 24/7 emergency department with 9 beds and 15 in patient beds for Medical and  AT&R admissions. The Emergency Department provides a 24 hour service for the 20,000 population and sees approximately 15,000 patients per year.  There is a 4 bed maternity unit and a large number of specialist outpatient clinics.

The Hospital has a well equipped radiology and laboratory service.  In addition, the emergency department has a Sonosite X-Porte ultrasound machine available for clinician-performed ultrasounds.
