Our client in New Zealand is seeking to recruit a full time Respiratory Physician / Internist for a permanent position commencing from February 2020.

- Requirement for FRACP or equivalent specialist qualification and eligibility for vocational registration in Internal Medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand with specialist qualification in Respiratory Medicine/ Pulmonology.
- Competence in managing cystic fibrosis patients and respiratory function laboratory is desirable.
- Demonstrated clinical, management, and teaching skills and the ability to work effectively within the multi-disciplinary team.
This is a new position and is additional to two experienced Respiratory Physicians. The Respiratory team also includes nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, sleep and respiratory laboratory technicians/ physiologists, and respiratory physiotherapists. The service provides comprehensive specialist outpatient and inpatient respiratory services, and primary health care support. Supporting services on site include radiology, nuclear medicine, radiation and medical oncology, and pathology laboratory. Cardiothoracic surgical services are provided in Wellington as the tertiary.
The position involves the provision of general respiratory inpatient and outpatient services including fibreoptic bronchoscopy, and reporting on sleep studies and respiratory lung function tests. Knowledge and ability to manage cystic fibrosis patients and any experience in the supervision of respiratory function laboratory is desirable. This position also includes participation in the general medicine call roster and the provision of limited holiday cover for general medicine.
This position is based at a 350 bed hospital in the Lower North Island of New Zealand. It is a secondary hospital and offers most medical and surgical specialities with the exception of Cardiothoracic, Plastic and Neurosurgery. It provides some tertiary care services. The hospital serves a local population of 170,000 but is the base for a regional head and neck oncology service which has responsibility for a population of 550,000 and draws patients from Whanganui, Taranaki, and Hawkes' Bay.
The collegial relationships between departments are strong and consultation with other specialists is easy, either formally with multidisciplinary meetings or informally as required. There is an active postgraduate medical society and there are excellent clinical library facilities.

The hospital is situated in a major university city and is at the hub of key routes to the central North Island ski fields, and river adventures. Wellington the capital city, is only a two hour journey by road, as are the local wine growing regions.
