A Respiratory and General Medicine Physician is required for a public sector hospital in New Zealand. This position would be suitable for an experienced or a newly qualified specialist.
This position is based at a 350 bed hospital in the Lower North Island of New Zealand. It is a secondary hospital and offers most medical and surgical specialities with the exception of Cardiothoracic, Plastic and Neurosurgery. The hospital serves a local population of 170,000.
This is a new position and is additional to two experienced Respiratory Physicians. The Respiratory team also includes nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, sleep and respiratory laboratory technicians/ physiologists, and respiratory physiotherapists. The service provides comprehensive specialist outpatient and inpatient respiratory services, and primary health care support. Supporting services including radiology, nuclear medicine, radiation and medical oncology, and pathology are also located on site.
The position involves the provision of general respiratory inpatient and outpatient services including fibreoptic bronchoscopy, and sleep and respiratory test reporting. Experience in cystic fibrosis care and the supervision of respiratory function laboratory is desirable. This position also includes participation in the general medicine call roster and the provision of limited holiday cover for general medicine.
Applicants must be eligible for vocational registration in Internal Medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand with specialist training / qualification in Respiratory Medicine, as well as having demonstrated clinical, management, and teaching skills and the ability to work effectively within the multi-disciplinary team.
