A great opportunity to work in the orthopaedic department of a regional general hospital in New Zealand, a 360 bed facility, teaching hospital and linked with Auckland and Otago Universities.
 
This role  provides an excellent grounding for developing clinical skills, although it is not accredited for FRACS training.

 
Responsibilities 
 

  • Assist with the assessment and admission of patients under the care of the department.
  • Attend Theatre as per theatre rosters and conducting such surgical procedures as
    approved by the consultant.
  • Undertake clinical responsibilities as directed by the Consultant, also organise relevant investigations, ensure the results are followed up, sighted and signed.
  • Responsible for the assessment and management of acute presentations in the Emergency Department and attending to GP telephone consultations during normal working hours.
  • Responsible for patient referrals and day to day ward management of patients under their team’s care, in consultation with others involved in the care of the patient where appropriate.
  • Work closely with the team, provide supervision and share responsibilities where and when appropriate.
  • Assist with the assessment and admission of patients under the care of the department.

  • Responsible for patient referrals and day to day ward management of patients under their team’s care, in consultation with others involved in the care of the patient where appropriate.
  • Maintain a high standard of communication with patients, patients’ families and staff.

 
 
 
Essential Requirements
 

  • Eligible for provisional or full general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
  • Completed internship
  • Experience working in orthopaedics
  • Team working skills
  • Clear communication
