These roles present superb opportunities for trainee surgeons in a department with RACS accredited training jobs. There are 12 x SMOs and 10 x Registrars in the Department of Surgery and all Registrar positions are accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons as training positions.
The hospital is a Level 5 hospital with acute services including general medicine and medical sub-specialities, cardiology, intensive care, paediatrics, O&G, mental health, orthopaedics, general and vascular surgery, urology, ENT and ophthalmology.
The job contracts are for 6- 12 months based at a regional general hospital with a 13 week rotation at a satellite hospital.
Role Responsibilities
- provide high quality medical care to surgical patients
- participate in ward rounds, clinics and operating theatre duties
- participate in on call rota - weekdays, evening/night and weekend
- first call for surgical subspecialties after hours
- Normal working hours at 07:30 – 17:00 hours, Monday to Friday.
- Evening hours 17:00 – 22:30 hours, Monday to Friday
- Weekend hours 08:00 – 22:30 (long day) and 08:00 – 17:00 (short day)
- Night duty hours 22:00 – 08:00
Requirements
- hold or be eligible for provisional general / general registration with the New Zealand Medical Council
- Previous experience as a House Officer on a surgical team is essential for this position, and experience at Registrar level in either Surgery or Orthopaedics is desirable.
- three referees, one should be current supervisor
