Registrar General Surgery
Start Date: January 2022 – January 2023
Contract: 12 month run, full time
Fantastic opportunities for trainee surgeons in a department with RACS accredited training jobs. There are 12 x SMOs and 10 x Registrars in the Department of Surgery.
All Registrar positions are accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons as training positions.
The hospital is a Level 5 hospital with acute services including general medicine and medical sub-specialities, cardiology, intensive care, paediatrics, O&G, mental health, orthopaedics, general and vascular surgery, urology, ENT and ophthalmology within the DHB. Waikato Hospital is our adult tertiary referral service, Starship for our paediatric tertiary services.
Primary Purpose ‘To provide high quality medical care to Surgical patients’
There are five Surgical Teams. There are three relief registrars and one rotational registrar.
Ordinary hours – On Site Normal working hours at 07:30 – 17:00 hours, Monday to Friday.
Evening hours 17:00 – 22:30 hours, Monday to Friday
Weekend hours 08:00 – 22:30 (long day) and 08:00 – 17:00 (short day)
Night duty hours 22:00 – 08:00
After Hours Duties The registrar participates in the weekday, evening/night and weekend roster system. The surgical registrar is first call for surgical subspecialties after hours (excluding orthopaedics).
Weekend Duty Registrars shall be roster on duty 08:00 – 22:30 and 08:00 – 17:00, rotating Saturday and Sunday
