These roles start in November 2021 and you will be part of a dynamic team of Medical Registrars and Consultants with special interests in cardiology, diabetes, respiratory medicine, nephrology and oncology running the Internal Medicine services at a district general hospital.

Role Details

The medical department has accredited basic and advanced physician training programme for the FRACP.  It is accredited for 24 months basic training and 12 months advanced physician training.

Close supervision for trainees in acute and outpatient settings is provided, allied with a strong commitment to teaching.

There is an active clinical training programme with didactic sessions, interactive based teaching, journal club and videoconferencing of RACP lectures.

The employer is a regional hospital providing secondary care services to a large rural region with many high health needs. It has 250 beds with 24/7 emergency department and supports 3 small regional hospitals, providing secondary care services for a population of approximately 170,000.

Auckland is the closest tertiary care centre. It is a regional base hospital providing a wide range of services including ED, medical specialties, surgical specialties, ICU, ENT, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Paediatrics, and Psychiatry.

Due to the population make up and the unselected nature of admissions Registrars gain experience managing a wide variety of conditions including rarer conditions such as rheumatic fever, tuberculosis and meningococcal disease.

As well as a warm climate, the "winterless north" offers excellent schools, affordable housing and scenic coastal areas offering a range of recreational activities. It is just two hours' drive or 25 minute flight from the international hub of Auckland and is well serviced with flights. There are great surf beaches and beautiful harbours and bays for sailing, kite surfing and windsurfing. It is also a top spot for fishing and diving with easy access to the world famous Poor Knights Marine reserve. There are also many beautiful forests and stunning hills to explore and climb.
