A service registrar post in general internal medicine starting February 2022 in a one of the largest regional hospitals in coastal Western Australia which offers a broad range of experience and training pathways to enhance future job opportunities either in country or the metropolitan area. This role is suitable for an internal medicine trainee or GP trainee.


The hospital is a 170 bed regional general hospital, one of the busiest hospitals in WA and the South West’s Regional Resource Centre, making it the point of call outside of tertiary care. 

The typical case mix is wide and varied and the range of medical presentations exposes junior doctors to an extensive range of learning and work based assessment opportunities. The available rotations are strong and include Paediatric, Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care, Orthopaedic, General Surgical, Geriatric and true General Medicine inclusive of a vast array of exposure to sub-specialties of Respiratory, Neurology, Stroke, Renal, Oncology and Palliative Medicine.

The Medical team has already started on the development of an acute medical unit, rapid access clinics, ambulatory care, telehealth and ward-based sub-specialities and is developing as a centre of excellence for teaching, training and research which will provide country clinicians with unrivalled professional development and research opportunities. It is accredited for Basic Training with RACP, is seeking Advanced Training accreditation and has an active education program.

Responsibilities of this role:

You will be responsible for the clinical care of patients under the supervision of senior medical staff including:
  • attending to patients in order of medical urgency
  • taking history of full medical examinations of new admissions and arranging appropriate investigations and assisting/performing medical procedures as required
  • managing medical conditions according to high level clinical standards under supervision of consultants
  • collaborating with other Medical, Nursing staff and multidisciplinary team members to facilitate patient management and communication with family, medical practitioners, and/or community services concerning patient management.
  • timely discharge summaries and efficient discharge planning.
  • daily ward rounds
  • On call duties

To be successful you must have:
  • a minimum of 6 months experience in General Medicine from Australia or a comparable country.
  • Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
