Our client in New Zealand is seeking to recruit a full time Radiation Oncologist for a full-time position starting 2020.

- Demonstrated clinical, management, and teaching skills and the ability to work effectively within the multi-disciplinary team.
You will join a team of six radiation oncologists and will work as a general radiation oncologist but with potential to develop an area of subspecialty cancer interest. The department is well supported with 3 registrars in training posts, specialist nursing staff, a palliative care team and a psycho-oncology service. There is a strong culture of multidisciplinary meetings and an active clinical trials portfolio. The department has “A” level accreditation (highest) with RANZCR as training centre for Radiation Oncology registrar training.
You will need to have completed postgraduate training in radiation oncology and hold a specialist qualification recognised by the Medical Council of New Zealand for vocational registration and equivalent to the FRANZCR.
The Regional Cancer Treatment Service covers a wide area including Hawkes Bay, Whanganui and Taranaki with a total population of over 560,000. The Regional Service includes Medical Oncology Radiation Oncology and Haematology. Some travel is required in order to service the region.
The department has 4 Siemens multi-modality linear accelerators with MLC, EPI, cone beam and respiratory gating capability, CT simulator and superficial X-ray unit. The department currently uses a CMS Xio and Monaco planning system. There are well established and accredited IMRT and IGRT programs. Exciting linac and planning systems replacement will occur in the next three years.
This position is based at a 350 bed hospital in the Lower North Island of New Zealand. It is a secondary hospital and offers most medical and surgical specialities with the exception of Cardiothoracic, Plastic and Neurosurgery. It provides some tertiary care services. The hospital serves a local population of 170,000 but is the base for a regional head and neck oncology service which has responsibility for a population of 550,000 and draws patients from Whanganui, Taranaki, and Hawkes' Bay.
The collegial relationships between departments are strong and consultation with other specialists is easy, either formally with multidisciplinary meetings or informally as required. There is an active postgraduate medical society and there are excellent clinical library facilities.
