Psychiatry registrar positions joining a team of 8 registrars in a hospital accredited for FRANZCP training. The hospital has had considerable success in providing comprehensive training to Registrars enabling them to gain Fellowship of the RANZCP.
The training programme offers runs in acute inpatient psychiatry, community adult psychiatry, Māori mental health, child and youth mental health, liaison psychiatry and psychiatry for older adults.
There is excellent consultant support and access to regular local teaching and participation in teaching through the Northern Region training scheme.
The employer is the largest hospital in the region, providing secondary care services for the region, supported by three regional hospitals. Northland covers an area of 12,600 square kilometres and has a population of approximately 160,000. As a region Northland is renowned for its beautiful beaches and relaxed lifestyle. The hospital has a 24.7 emergency service, general medical and surgical services for all ages and support from radiology and pathology. The surrounding region is rural with many high health needs. Due to the population make up and the unselected nature of our admissions Registrars gain experience managing a wide variety of conditions including rarer conditions such as rheumatic fever, tuberculosis and meningococcal disease.
As well as a warm climate, the "winterless north" offers excellent schools, affordable housing and scenic coastal areas offering a range of recreational activities. It is just two hours' drive or 25 minute flight from the international hub of Auckland and is well serviced with flights.
