This role is for a consultant psychiatrist to join a large psychiatric service in the North Island of New Zealand serving a population of over 160,000 people. The psychiatry services are based in a regional hospital supported by three smaller hospitals and clinic facilities spread out across the territory which is just 2 hours drive from Auckland. All disciplines are practised by the department.
This position is for a Consultant Psychiatrist with broad skills in general adult psychiatry, an interest in strengthening relationships with General Practitioners and primary care and/or an interest in practice in rural areas. The psychiatrist provides general adult community based clinical care for a regional area in the North Island and may include rural clinics.

In addition to clinical resposibilities, the teaching and supervision of trainee psychiatrists is expected and opportunities for the conduct of audit and research are readily available.
In order to be considered for this role you must meet the following criteria:
- specialist qualification in psychiatry FRANCP or equivalent
- eligibliy for registration and be able to gain either locum tenens and /or vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- previous experience in inpatient and community settings.
- experience as supervisor of registrars desirable
