Role Details

An exciting opportunity has become available in an adult community Mental Health and Additions team for a consultant psychiatrist specialising in substance abuse. The role is based between two hospitals in a beautiful area of New Zealand, not far from Auckland.nThe scope of practice is general adult psychiatry, with a specific portfolio in specialist addictions psychiatry and leadership of a small opioid substitute therapy aid team. The role is based inside the adult community mental health services, with some oversight working alongside the inpatient consultant psychiatrist as required. The role will work collaboratively with  non-governmental organisations, providing clinical wisdom and leadership.

The role offers a general remuneration package, including a 20% recruitment and retention bonus. There is an on-call provision (1:6).

The role is based in the Main Hospital Campus,  a large organisation (1,500 staff) operating in an exciting, changing health sector. It provides secondary healthcare services for a population of 110,000 with support from tertiary care centres in Auckland. It is a district general hospital in one of the most spectacular regions of New Zealand. Its services include 24 hour emergency department, medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry, anaesthetics, radiology and pathology. The secondary mental health services provide dynamic consultant lead services.

The successful candidates should have comprehensive experience and training in Psychiatry and a board certification or specialist qualification and must have vocational registration or eligibility for this.

The beautiful Lakes District of Rotorua and Taupo is well known for its outdoor recreational options including trout fishing, walking tracks, cycling and mountain biking. Lake and river water sports such as boating and kayaking are exceptional.
