There is a a new opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join a Child & Adolescent Mental Health Team covering the whole of Northland, from just north of Wellsford to the North Cape in New Zealand.
This position provides outpatient care from the main team location the regional hospital as well as from satellite clinics in other parts of the district. We encourage applications from doctors with an interest in broad-based approaches to care, including working with other government agencies (especially Oranga Tamariki and Education) and non-government organisations.
There you will be part of a team of senior doctors including a specialist paediatrician, with an opportunity to contribute to psychiatry registrar supervision and training and to providing leadership to the clinical team.
The regional health board offers you professional support with a commitment to continuing professional development. You will become part of a broader group of psychiatrists within the district contributing to care across the age bands, and in sub-specialty services including maternal mental health, early psychosis service and addictions, as well as a group of child and adolescent psychiatrist colleagues within the greater Northern Region.
Applicants should be eligible for or be able to work towards vocational registration as Specialist Psychiatrists with the Medical Council of New Zealand and should preferably have FRANZCP. An appreciation of Maori culture and rural/community psychiatric experience would be an advantage.
All applicants MUST be eligible for registration and be able to gain either locum tenens and /or vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.

- Qualifications: FRANZCP or equivalent qualification recognised by the Medical Council of New Zealand for vocational registration.
- License: Vocational Registration or Eligibility for Vocational Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- Language: fluent English (IELTS Academic Module 7.5 average for non native speakers)
