A plastic surgeon vacancy is available for a fixed term two-year appointment near Wellington, New Zealand’s capital city due to service expansion and a generous relocation package is available. You should have a general surgical scope at least 2 years’ experience after completion of specialist training.

Hospital

A busy general hospital with 260 beds, 24/7 emergency department, internationally renowned plastic and burns unit, regional rheumatology and public health services serving a population of 134,000. All services have a strong focus on excellence and innovation. 

The plastic surgery service provides regional services to Wellington, Wairarapa, Mid Central, Hawke's Bay, Nelson/Marlborough and Whanganui. In addition, the Unit provides supra-regional services in vascular anomalies and laser. 

The Regional Plastic Surgery service is expanding the service and this additional position will be that of a General Plastic Surgeon. This broad scope of practice will cover areas of need such as

  • assessment and treatment of skin cancer
  • hand surgery
  • trauma and burns
  • general plastic trauma lists
  • 'see and treat' skin lesion clinics
  • on call 1 in 10

If you possess experience in more sub-specialty areas such as breast reconstruction or head and neck surgery, there may be opportunity to contribute to these established teams.

Applicants must be registered or eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand and should have a minimum of 2 years’ experience post FRACS or equivalent in plastic and reconstructive surgery.
