Scope of practice – General paediatrics and neonatology
This is a six month fixed term post to cover consultant leave at a regional general hospital providing secondary care to 160,000 people and is suitable for experienced or recently qualified consultants.
The post involves an equal share of the on-call roster, covering General Paediatrics and Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) level two neonates.
There are currently ten Paediatricians and two fellows on the Consultant call roster. There are always two Senior staff on call, so you will be well supported, with an average call frequency of around one in seven. Outpatient responsibilities include 2.5 clinics per week when not on call.
There is a 23 bed inpatient ward, and 12 bed SCBU. Junior staffing cover is provided by nine Junior Registrars, and four SHO’s.
The city boasts some of New Zealand’s best beaches, an unsurpassed coastal lifestyle, and easy access to the Coromandel Peninsula, the Lakes District and the Central Volcanic Plateau.
The main hospital is a level 5 hospital with 24/7 emergency department, acute services including general medicine and medical sub-specialties, Cardiology, Intensive Care, Paediatrics, O&G, Mental Health, Orthopaedics, General and Vascular Surgery, Urology, ENT and Ophthalmology. Waikato Hospital is the adult tertiary referral service, Starship for Paediatric tertiary services. It has a clinical school affiliated with the University of Auckland and is accredited for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

- FRACP or equivalent postgraduate qualification in paediatrics (American Board Certification, FRCPC, MRCPCH CCT all accepted)
