A public hospital in New Zealand wishes to recruit an Otorhinolaryngologist for a new role which has arisen due to expansion within the department. This is a full time, permanent position commencing as soon as possible.

The ideal applicant will have general Otorhinolaryngology experience although a special interest in rhinology or otology would be welcomed.

This position is based at a 350 bed hospital in the Lower North Island of New Zealand. It is a secondary hospital and offers most medical and surgical specialities with the exception of Cardiothoracic, Plastic and Neurosurgery. The hospital serves a local population of 170,000 but is the base for a regional head and neck oncology service which has responsibility for a population of 550,000 and draws patients from Whanganui, Taranaki, and Hawkes' Bay.

The collegial relationships between departments are strong and consultation with other specialist is easy, either formally with multidisciplinary meetings or informally as required. There is an active postgraduate medical society and there are excellent clinical library facilities. The Otorhinolaryngology department currently participates in fortnightly radiology and head and neck MDT meetings and monthly thyroid MDT and pathology meetings. The department hosts a monthly half day regional CDP meeting with otorhinolaryngologists attending from Whanganui, Taranaki and Hawke’s Bay.

To be eligible for this position you must be either registered or able to gain vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand and have a specialist qualification in otolaryngology that is recognised by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (Otolaryngology/Head and Neck) as suitable for Vocational Registration in New Zealand. (www.mcnz.co.nz for further information).

The successful applicant will be given the opportunity to join Totara House Private Rooms, once they have full Vocational Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand should they wish to pursue private practice.
