A Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in Paediatric Orthopaedics is sought for a public hospital-based role in a regional hospital in New Zealand to replace a surgeon who is retiring.
The hospital is a regional general hospital providing secondary and selected tertiary care and is affiliated with two university medical schools for which it functions as a teaching hospital.
The orthopaedic service at the hospital is a generalist one with both elective and trauma work undertaken. In particular elective hip and knee replacement surgery and general orthopaedic trauma surgery (predominantly occurring on scheduled day time acute trauma operating lists) will be an essential part of any orthopaedic surgeon’s workload as well as participation in the on call roster.
Other subspecialities which would be considered favourably include spinal and foot/ankle surgery. You would be one of 8 Orthopaedic Specialists. There is also a Medical Officer, 6 Registrars (two are on the national training program) and House Officers.
Applicants must hold FRACS Orthopaedics or equivalent and be eligible for vocational registration in Orthopaedic Surgery with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
