An experienced consultant orthopaedic surgeon with sub-specialty interest in spinal surgery is sought to join a team of 8 full and part-time consultant surgeons, 2 training registrars, 4 non training registrars and 3 house officers in a major regional district health board in the North Island of New Zealand.
The orthopaedic department provides a comprehensive inpatient and outpatient orthopaedic service for the region of over 160,000 inhabitants. The position is based in the major regional hospital with some travel required to attend clinics and operating theatre sessions at district hospitals. Participation in the after-hours on-call roster (usually 1:9) is required. You will also need to participate in the supervision and instruction of junior medical staff within the orthopaedic service.
The area boasts a subtropical climate and some of the most scenic and exciting coastal areas in New Zealand. The opportunities for outdoor activities, water sports and fishing are superb, including diving at our world famous Poor Knights Islands reserve. Auckland, New Zealand's largest city is just 2 hours drive away.
To be considerd for this role you must have the following credentials:
- specialist qualification in orthopaedics - FRACS or equivalent
- fellowship in spinal surgery
- fluent English communication
- eligibility for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
