Full time consultant ophthalmologist sought for a role close to Auckland in the north island of New Zealand. The area offers an excellent quality of life with easy access to the cosmoplitan metropolis within 90 minures drive.

The Role

We are seeking a full time Specialist Ophthalmologist with a sub-speciality interest that will make a contribution to the ophthalmology service of a district general hospital with 4 consultants. Whilst subspeciality interest can be varied, it is essential that you are able to undertake cataract surgery proficiently.

You must have a qualification that allows Vocational Registration as an Ophthalmologist with the Medical Council of New Zealand.  It would be preferred if you had a Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO), however other equivalent certifications such as FRCOPHTH and CCT, FRCSC, American Board of Ophthalmology are accepted.

Participation in the consultant on-call roster (1:4) is required.

The Hospital

The role is based in a region of the North Island of New Zealand with 4 hospitals covering an extensive area of territory. The largest hospital is a regional base hospital with 350 + beds providing secondary care services including 24/7 emergency department, medical and surgical specialties, ICU, ENT, O&G, Paediatrics and Psychiatry.  The three smaller hospitals provide basic primary and secondary care. The population has complex health needs and a high incidence of Maori population.

You will be living in a beautiful part of New Zealand with warm summers, mild winters and lots of opportunities for outdoor activities on land and at sea just 90 minutes drive from Auckland, with regular flights to and from Auckland Airport.
