FRACP accredited

Start Date: January 2022

Contract Duration: Rolling

Location: Whangarei

Role Details:

Medical Registrars sought to join a dedicated and dynamic Haematology/Oncology team working from a new unit in a dynamic expanding service.

The centre is primarily an outpatient service offering day stay chemotherapy with the Registrar assisting the acute medical team with management of patients on treatment requiring admission.

Working closely with the Haematologists and Oncologists means you can widen your practice as your skills grow.  You will also contribute to the acute medical roster.

There is an active clinical training programme with didactic sessions, interactive based teaching, journal club and videoconferencing of RACP lectures. NDHB is accredited for 24 months basic physician training.

The hospital is a 250 bed regional general hospital with 24/7 emergency department and supports 3 small regional hospitals, providing secondary care services for a population of approximately 170,000.  Auckland is the closest tertiary care centre. It is a regional base hospital providing a wide range of services including ED, medical specialties, surgical specialties, ICU, ENT, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Paediatrics, and Psychiatry.

As well as a warm climate, the "winterless north" offers excellent schools, affordable housing and scenic coastal areas offering a range of recreational activities. It is just two hours' drive or 25 minute flight from the international hub of Auckland and is well serviced with flights. There are great surf beaches and beautiful harbours and bays for sailing, kite surfing and windsurfing. It is also a top spot for fishing and diving with easy access to the world famous Poor Knights Marine reserve. There are also many beautiful forests and stunning hills to explore and climb.

Essential Requirements:

  • General registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or eligibility for this
  • 12 months general medicine experience
