Role: Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Consultant

Scope of practice: general obstetrics and gynaecology, sub specialist interest in minimal access laparoscopic surgery encouraged.

Experience level: newly qualified or experienced specialist

Contract: Permanent

Hours: full time although part time can be considered. On call 1 in 6

Role Overview

A generalist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, to join a team of OB/GYNs in a 230 bed regional general hospital. The obstetric and gynaecology services are provided by eight consultants (2 are part time), two registrars and dedicated SHO support.

A special interest in minimal access (laparoscopic) gynaecological surgery is desirable but not essential. There would be an opportunity to develop a special interest whilst working.

The successful candidate will provide services in Rotorua and Taupo, participate in a 1:6 acute call roster and enjoy excellent support from the Anaesthetic, Surgical, Radiology and Intensive Care teams.

The hospital has modern ward areas, ICU and theatres, and a state of the art ambulatory outpatient area for Gynaecology, to facilitate outpatient hysteroscopy and Colposcopy/LETZ.

The beautiful Lakes District of Rotorua and Taupo is well known for its outdoor recreational options including trout fishing, walking tracks, cycling and mountain biking. Lake and river water sports such as boating and kayaking are exceptional. Add this to affordable housing, good schooling and a friendly atmosphere and you have one of the best places in the world to work as a physician.


  • Eligible for vocational or provisional vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
  • FRANZCOG or equivalent


  • Minimally invasive surgical training
