A Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist is sought for a role in a regional hospital in New Zealand with a team of five full-time and two part-time Consultants.This is a replacement full-time post.
The hospital provides public health services from north of Auckland to Cape Reinga. The population of the region is about 179 000 and growing. One third of the patients identify as Maori. It offers a full range of general Obstetrics and Gynaecology services with links with Auckland District Health Board for Gynaecological Oncology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Tertiary Neonatal care and Tertiary Fertility. Each year there are about 2000 births, 20% of which are in Primary Maternity Units. The region has one of the lowest caesarean section rates in New Zealand. 5th and 6th year Medical Students from Auckland University are taught at the hospital.
The successful applicant will be part of a 1 in 6 roster covering acute Obstetrics and Gynaecology, working alongside a team of five House Officers. Most of the House Officers complete the O&G Diploma and some join the O&G Registrar Training Programme.
The post will be based at a hospital, with visiting services at rural hospitals around the region. The post will provide the successful applicant with lots of hands-on experience in general Obstetrics and Gynaecology, as well as opportunities to develop special interests. We would welcome applicants with experience in pelvic floor surgery, as we anticipate increasing demand in this area in the future.
The successful applicant will be living in a beautiful part of New Zealand with warm summers, mild winters and lots of opportunities for outdoor activities on land and at sea. Whangarei is two hours' drive from Auckland, with regular flights to and from Auckland Airport.
Applicants must be eligible for Vocational Registration in O&G with the Medical Council of New Zealand at the time of taking up the post.
- Qualifications: Fellowship of Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) or equivalent qualification recognised by the Medical Council of New Zealand.
- License: Vocational Registration or Eligibility for Vocational Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- Language: fluent English (IELTS Academic Module 7.5 average for non native speakers)
