Role: Medical Officer in Oncology
Contract: Permanent full time
Start: October 2021
This non specialist medical officer role is based in the Regional Cancer Treatment Service (RCTS) which provides medical oncology, radiation oncology and clinical haematology services and is a permanent contract working 36 hours per week with negotiable commencement date.
This is a non-consultant position suitable for a doctor with an interest in oncology. This position supports the three specialties of Medical Oncology, Clinical Haematology and Radiation Oncology.
The role will predominantly support the delivery of systemic cancer therapy in the Hawke’s Bay and advising and assessing acutely presenting patients under the care of the RCTS. This role is an integral member of the cancer team at Hawke’s Bay, supporting and advising a team of specialist cancer nurses and working alongside the RCTS Senior Medical Officers.
The role will involve providing cancer care and the delivery of systemic therapy, supporting a team of specialist cancer nurses, supporting Multi-Disciplinary Meetings and providing HBDHB clinicians with advice on the management of the patient with cancer in the inpatient setting.
Applicants for this position must have, or be eligible for, general registration with the New Zealand Medical Council as well as having demonstrated clinical skills and the ability to work effectively within the multi-disciplinary team. Some experience in cancer medicine, and knowledge of chemotherapy, is an advantage, but not essential
