Role: Consultant Plastic Surgeon
Contract: Fixed term for 6-12 months commencing early 2022
Hours: Full time (1.0 FTE)
On Call Duties: 1 in 10
This is a full time post in a plastic surgery service which provides regional services to Wellington, Wairarapa, Mid Central, Hawke's Bay, Nelson/Marlborough and Whanganui regions. In addition, the Unit provides supra-regional services in vascular anomalies and laser surgery.
The Regional Plastic Surgery service has short term capacity to support the full range of general plastic surgery undertaken and is embarking on a new build to provide a 5 room procedure suite which will manage the plastic surgery skin lesion volume along with other sub specialty procedures in later part of 2022.
The plastic surgery and burns unit is internationally renowned.
This role could suit a newly registered SMO who may seek to defer Fellowship overseas due to global conditions for 6 months to 1 year and employment length could be negotiated or an experienced surgeon.
This role will have a commitment to general plastic surgery elective lists and clinics which could be tailored to any subspecialty interest candidates may have.
In addition planned trauma lists will be undertaken as well as contribution to 'see and treat' skin lesion clinics. There would be an on call component.
The position is based in a 260-bed district general hospital serving a population of 134,000. The plastic surgery service provides regional services to Wellington, Wairarapa, Mid Central, Hawke's Bay, Nelson/Marlborough and Whanganui DHBs equating to a draining population of 1.2 million.
Lower Hutt is located close to Wellington, the Kapiti Coast and Wairarapa regions and provides opportunities for most recreational pursuits, sporting and cultural activities.
Hutt Valley is part of Wellington, Capital of New Zealand. The region offers great restaurants, a vibrant cultural scene and coffee culture as well as ample opportunity for outdoor pursuits. Skills and experience
Applicants must be registered or eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
