An exciting opportunity for energetic, enthusiastic General and Acute Physician, with any sub-speciality interest considered, is currently available at a regional hospital close to Auckland.
The hospital provides secondary care services for the region supported by three growing district hospitals. The region offers the opportunity to work with a growing and diverse population with a high population of Maori people. The focus is on improving equity against a background of high needs and challenging clinical issues. There are opportunities to work within the outlying community hospitals as well as leadership opportunities to develop key local services to improve the medical outcomes for the people of the region.
The service has a coronary care unit with five beds, three medical wards with 68 beds and a spacious outpatient facility. The hospital prides itself on having a supportive collegial atmosphere with great rapport across specialities and services. The acute Medical service works closely with the Emergency Department teams to provide acute care to those presenting acutely to hospital. You would be joining a team of 16 physicians who work across both Acute Medicine and subspecialty ambulatory services.
The region covers an area of 12,600 square kilometres and has a population of over 170,000.
Working in this high clinical need environment is offset by slow paced relaxation with breath-taking scenic coastal areas and exciting recreational activities.
Excellent schools, affordable housing and numerous preschool facilities abound. A well-developed Town Basin offers walks; exercise and child play beside an attractive marina with many restaurants and coffee shops to enjoy. Auckland city is just a two hour drive away.
The province boasts a subtropical climate and some of the most scenic and exciting coastal areas in New Zealand. There are opportunities for outdoor activities, including surfing, diving, fishing, hiking and biking. On-site, there is a well-equipped staff gym and an open-air pool. Whangarei itself has all the convenient amenities of a modern, small city but the Auckland metropolis is only two hour's drive away for those special weekend activities.
- Qualifications: FRACP or equivalent qualification recognised by the Medical Council of New Zealand for vocational registration.
- License: Vocational Registration or Eligibility for Vocational Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- Language: fluent English (IELTS Academic Module 7.5 average for non native speakers)
