Intensive Care Medicine Registrars

Starting in January 2022, the intensive care registrar posts have a 12-month appointment with 6 months of the post accredited for training by the College of Intensive Care Medicine for 6 months of core ICU training, foundation training and rural exposure requirement. It is also accredited by the colleges of emergency medicine, general medicine, and rural hospital medicine training.
As an Intensive care registrar, you will also work as a member of the northland helicopter retrieval service which offers exciting and challenging experience. There is an active clinical training programme and regular quality assurance meetings
CICM trainees may have the option of 6 months anaesthesia during their 12 month appointment (2 trainees per year). Trainees from other specialties, depending on availability, may be offered three months in anaesthesia during their 12 month appointment..
Whangarei is the largest hospital in Northland, providing secondary care services for the region, supported by three regional hospitals. Northland covers an area of 12,600 square kilometres and has a population of approximately 170,000. As well as a warm climate, the "winterless north" offers excellent schools, affordable housing and scenic coastal areas offering a range of recreational activities. It is just two hours' drive or 25 minute flight from the international hub of Auckland and is well serviced with flights.
- General registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or eligibility for this
- Previous experience in general practice or internal medicine
- It is ideal to have at least 6 months experience in emergency medicine and paediatrics. Prior Intensive Care or anaesthetic registrar time would be desirable.
