Intensive Care Medicine Registrars
Start Date: August 2021
Contract Duration: 12 months Rolling
Full time ICU registrar posts starting in August 2021 suitable for physicians training in Intensive Care Medicine, Internal medicine, emergency medicine rural medicine.
The posts are accredited for training by the College of Intensive Care Medicine for 6 months of core ICU training, foundation training and rural exposure requirement. They are also accredited by the colleges of emergency medicine, general medicine, and rural hospital medicine training.
As an Intensive care registrar, you will also work as a member of the northland helicopter retrieval service which offers exciting and challenging experience.
There is an active clinical training programme and regular quality assurance meetings
CICM trainees may have the option of 6 months anaesthesia during their 12 month appointment (2 trainees per year). Trainees from other specialties, depending on availability, may be offered three months in anaesthesia during their 12 month appointment..
The hospital is a 250 bed regional general hospital with 24/7 emergency department and supports 3 small regional hospitals, providing secondary care services for a population of approximately 170,000. Auckland is the closest tertiary care centre.
As well as a warm climate, the "winterless north" offers excellent schools, affordable housing and scenic coastal areas offering a range of recreational activities. It is just two hours' drive or 25 minute flight from the international hub of Auckland and is well serviced with flights. There are great surf beaches and beautiful harbours and bays for sailing, kite surfing and windsurfing. It is also a top spot for fishing and diving with easy access to the world famous Poor Knights Marine reserve. There are also many beautiful forests and stunning hills to explore and climb.
- General registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or eligibility for this
- At least 6 months experience in emergency medicine and paediatrics.
- Prior Intensive Care or anaesthetic registrar time would be desirable.
