A locum infectious diseases physician at consultant level is sought for a large teaching hospital in Auckland from April 14th – May 1st 2020 (inclusive)

The Hospital and Role

900 bed teaching hospital in South Auckland with a broad range of medical and surgical subspecialties with a catchment of around 750,000 people. The hospital is the home of the National Burns Centre. It is a tertiary referral centre for plastics, orthopaedic malignancies and upper North Island traumatic spinal injuries.

The infectious diseases service provides a two stream inpatient consultation service, one for medical services and one for surgical services. Each stream comprises of an SMO and a registrar. The appointed SMO manages one of these streams (alongside a registrar) as well as a fortnightly infectious diseases outpatients clinic and oversight of a well-established, nurse specialist driven outpatient antibiotic service. Other rostered activities include plate rounds with the microbiology department three times per week, journal club, local departmental teaching, regional teaching, radiology conference, ICU and renal service paper rounds and one week of after-hours infectious diseases off site call (Friday to Thursday) but no other after hours or public holiday cover.

Candidates must have suitable training and experience in Infectious Diseases and be eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Eligibility can be obtained by visiting
