We are recruiting for the role of Consultant – Surgeon – General Surgery in Western Australia. The successful applicant will work within their defined scope of practice to perform clinical duties and provide patient care as a general surgeon. Duties include; onsite consultation, emergency services, outpatient clinics, operations and procedures.
You will provide clinical oversight, support and advice to medical practitioners in the region regarding patients and participate in programs to ensure safety and quality of general surgical services including audit, incident review and clinical practice improvement projects. The position will work alongside two other consultant general surgeons plus a standard roster of visiting specialist surgeons. The role is supported by one registrar, one resident medical officer and one intern which rotate throughout the year.
Area Profile: The area supported by WA Country Health Service (WACHS) – Great Southern is approximately 39,000 km2 in the southern-most part of WA. It is bounded by Woodanilling in the north, Ravensthorpe/Hopetoun in the east, Nornalup in the west (informally extended to Walpole), and Albany in the south. The area has a population of around 55,000, including 3% indigenous Australians. The majority of people live in the main towns: Albany, Denmark, Katanning, Kojonup and Mount Barker. Albany Health Campus is the main hospital within the region and the secondary referral centre for the region.
To be considered for this role you must have the following credentials:
- FRACS or equivalent specialist qualfication
- Eligibility for specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Fluent English communication
