Job Title: General Surgeon Consultant
Location: Taranaki, New Zealand
Start Date: August 2021
Contract: 12 months fixed term (parental leave cover)
Working hours: 45-49.9 per week
This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant General Surgeon to join a team of five surgeons with interests in colorectal, upper GI and breast and endocrine surgery. The successful candidate will take part in a 1:6 on call roster with registrar and house surgeon support.
Particular consideration will be given to applicants experienced in Endoscopy.
The position is available on a full-time basis however applications will be considered from candidates wishing to work on a part time basis with private practice.
The department has a strong track record with audit and you will be expected to participate and contribute to the department’s activities including advanced trainee registrar teaching, supervision of house surgeons, audit and medical student teaching.
The hospital is a regional general facility , one hour’s flight from tertiary care centres. A new inpatient Clinical Service Block was opened with 6 Wards and a Theatre Block comprising 6 Theatres, 12 bed PACU 1, 24 bed PACU 2, 2 Endoscopy/procedure rooms.
An interventional suite and digital radiology facilities are well established.
There are excellent links for tertiary services in Hamilton, Wellington and Auckland.
IT services are a priority and there is a strategic plan to innovate in the area of integrated information and technology.
