The Department of Medicine provides acute general and subspecialist medical care as well as outpatient/ non-acute/ elective inpatient care to the community of over 200,000 people. Subspecialties provided include Cardiology, Nephrology and haemodialysis, endocrinology, diabetology, geriatrics, respiratory medicine, oncology, gastroenterology, hepatology and neurology.
Duties:
- general medical services
- Perform regular routine ward rounds with junior medical staff
and the multi-disciplinary team of the ward reviewing the
progress, management and discharge plans of inpatients
admitted under your care - participate in the acute medicine on-call roster alongside the other physicians.
- Perform regular outpatient clinics at hospital sites across the region
- improve and develop the services of the assessment unit
- educate resident medical officers
- have or be eligible for vocational (or locum tenens – special purpose) registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand in an Internal Medicine scope of practice
- postgraduate training in internal medicine and a subspeciality with dual accreditation
- fluent English communication
- enthusiasm for medical education
- skills in service development
- driving licence
