The Role

You will join one other consultant gastroenterologist to make a team of two providing full gastroenterology services to the hospital and you may combine the role with the practice of internal medicine, although that is not essential. It would be desirable to have experience in ERCP but it is not essential. However endoscopy capabailities are required. In addition to clinical duties, you will be expected to educate house officers, registrars and medical students.

The Hospital

The role is based in a region of the North Island of New Zealand with 4 hospitals covering an extensive area of territory. The largest hospital is a regional base hospital with 350 + beds providing secondary care services including 24/7 emergency department, medical and surgical specialties, ICU, ENT, O&G, Paediatrics and Psychiatry.  The three smaller hospitals provide basic primary and secondary care. The population has complex health needs.This regional hospital provides secondary care services with three rural hospitals covering an area of 12,600 square kilometres and a population of 180,000.

The endoscopy facilities are being re-developed and will move to a dedicated suite within the next 12 months. You will help develop a sustainable service for bowel disease and introduce bowel screening.

The Location

The successful applicant will be living in a beautiful part of New Zealand with warm summers, mild winters and lots of opportunities for outdoor activities on land and at sea just two hours' drive from Auckland, with regular flights to and from Auckland Airport. The local area has excellent schools and reasonable costs of living.
